Director Statement
My models are such extraordinary people: I wanted to preserve this rare and beautiful time of creation, here in Rome, of transforming reality into art, before it vanishes.
I wanted to show the silence and the light, to share what my models were thinking, feeling, wondering, as they posed for me. The exciting way watercolor marks can reveal in an instant figures, gestures, feelings. Each silent still and naked model like a closed book full of inspirations and experiences: this film is a chance glimpse inside.
The pacing of the film mirrors our reality, and the way it is to paint with watercolor -- slow intense stillness of live model sessions, quick dancing dialogues.
I am deeply grateful to Saskia Scorselo, who as cinematographer was able to capture exactly what I wanted, down to the smallest details, better than I imagined. Her sensitive and creative editing brought out all the funniness and sweetness, the sincerity and beauty of our situation.
For me, this project is a bit like a love letter to my home in Rome, to all that we have created here.
