Watercolor Painting Retreat in Lagos, Algarve, Southern Portugal:
Tuesday to Tuesday, September 15 - 22, 2026.
This week of painting will include quick monochromatic watercolors of my Roman model Laura, and colorful still life watercolors of fresh local produce from the Portuguese farmers markets. Art classes will be complemented with two exciting trips: a boat ride through the hidden grottoes of Algarve and a visit to the historic town of Lagos. The spaces are limited to 16 artists.
The beautiful Portuguese Quinta, nestled along the sun-drenched Algarve coast, has elegant charm and modern amenities: a swimming pool, a hot tub, a sauna, lush gardens, and sweeping views of the endless ocean. Enjoy delicious chef-prepared meals in the company of 15 fellow artists!
Students will learn techniques for making fast and fluid monochromatic watercolors of our beautiful Roman model Laura, with poses ranging from 30 seconds to a half-hour. Examine the finer details of nature, form, light and color in fresh local produce to paint simple essential colorful still lifes.
Individual instruction will be given to each student, to brush control, wetness, and use of the paper. All levels from beginners to advanced welcome.
